What's the difference between ASTM A1018 and ASTM A36
A36 is structural steel plates and structural shapes intended for structural applications such as construction, bridges, and alike. A1018 is a broader spec that includes numerous grades including microalloyed and HSLA grades as well as carbon steeland applies to to heavy thickness sheet and coils.

Jan 02, 2014 · A36 is a relatively wide spec material because it is generally composed of melted down cars and other scrap. 1018 is a narrow spec material that you might see on an engineering print for machined or forged parts but it is unlikely to see A36 specified for anything other than structural work.
There has been some discussion between 1018 and A 36 and the differences, It is time to go to the references and get the facts. Mar 09, 2010 · The ASTM A1011 Grade 36 and ASTM A1018 Grade 36 specifications are for the sheet and strip forms of A36. The A709 Grade 36 is denoted as bridge material with the same basic chemical, mechanical, and physical properties. Carbon adds to strength and hardenability of steel. A36/SA36 is less than 0.30 percent carbon and will not harden appreciably.

What Is A36 Steel? Hunker
As mentioned, ASTM A36 is the most common type of steel alloy. It is used for most building components, including columns, beams, decking and finish elements. The ductility of ASTM A36 doesn't allow the alloy to be used as cable, and it should not be used as reinforcing bar (rebar). Nevertheless, the majority of other uses are perfect for ASTM A36.
